Under Uganda's Penal Code, Section 27, misprision of treason refers to the offence of knowingly concealing information about planned or intended treason without reporting it to the appropriate authorities. The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment upon conviction.

"The magistrate has informed us that her ruling is not ready. She has taken note of all the health concerns we raised. She also said she was concerned about the large crowd in court and did not wish to reconvene everyone simply to announce that the ruling was not ready. She further indicated that she intends to write a more detailed ruling on the matter," Sseggona said.

As the investigation continues, NIRA officials are likely to face further scrutiny to ensure that the national identity card project is being executed in a responsible and cost-effective manner.
