The President emphasised the need to ensure that economic growth translates into improved household incomes, citing government programmes such as Operation Wealth Creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“Can you have a strong army and a strong and safe country without a strong economy? Can you have a strong defence force and a strong and safe country without cohesive politics? Finally, can you have a strong defence force and a strong and safe country without, in some cases, addressing the issue of geo-strategic location such as being landlocked?” President Museveni asked.
The new ministers are Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Shartsi Kutesa Musherure, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Microfinance; and Juma Witonze, the Minister of State for Internal Affairs.
A total of 79 ministers took the oath of office before President Museveni at State House Entebbe as Uganda’s new Cabinet officially assumed office. Four appointees missed the ceremony due to citizenship concerns, while Janet Museveni was absent.
