State Minister for Lands Arrests a Suspected Land Grabber in Nansana

The State Minister of Lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja has directed the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Wakiso district to arrest the caretaker of Yonasani Kivumbi’s family for the alleged destruction of a six-acre Matooke plantation and property that belonged to Mzee Paul Kayondo.

The State Minister’s directive left residents in Nasse village, Nansana Municipality overjoyed and others were seen and heard praising President Museveni, the minister and government officials for combating land wrangles in their area.

According to media reports, Kivumbi’s family through their caretaker (name withheld) are alleged to have attacked Kayondo and destroyed his six acres of a matooke plantation.

Preliminary information indicates that the local leaders of the area headed by Dan Waswa Tamale, the councillor were prompted to call the Residential District Commissioner (RDC), Justine Mbabazi and the State Minister for Lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja to intervene.

Minister Mayanja then visited the area to witness the incident where residents expressed their dismay before him.

“The culprits who have done this must be arrested. I’m here with the RDC and his security team to represent the President who is still in power. The President promised to protect his people from land grabbers,” Minister Mayanja said.

Adding, “Whether one owns a piece of land on freehold basis, lease or milo land or even has a land title for it, they should be given the same kind of protection unless he or she chooses to leave the land on their own.”

He later ordered for the immediate arrest of the suspect who was Kivumbi’s care taker.

The suspect is currently in Police custody pending further investigations.
