The Kira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has been dislodged from being the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party Spokesperson.
This was announced during a press conference that was called by Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the party President and MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Secretary General at the Party Headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
The Press Conference aimed at updating the public on the FDC political situation amidst tension between the Najjanankumbi bloc led by Amuriat with Mafabi, and the Katonga group chaired by Dr. Kizza Besigye.
During the presser, the former MP for Kasese Municipality, Robert Centenary declared that he had been appointed by the party President to be the Spokesperson from then on-wards to fill in the gap since Ssemujju decided to tie with the party founding President, Dr. Besigye.
“I am going to continue to speak for this FDC party as long as I am required to do so by the party President,” Centenary stressed.
The decision follows Ssemujju’s defiance against the constitution of the party through holding illegal meetings, tying up with Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and spreading hate speech against the party and the leaders, something that did not go well with the leaders at the Najjanankumbi headquarters and therefore a drastic decision had to be made to fill in the gap.
However, the party President expressed his disappointment in Lukwago who still holds an elected office but is already holding serious campaigns.
“This is hypocrisy among the party members. You preach water yet you drink wine,” Amuriat noted.
Amuriat added that, Ssemujju has not been in the party for a long time and therefore, does not qualify to falsely accuse them of wanting to sale the party to National Resistance Movement (NRM) like Democratic Party (DP) and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) did.
He therefore said that, Ssemujju has a lot to learn and so, will forgive him.
On the same day, the Besigye faction at Katonga road was also holding its press conference where several senior FDC party members accompanied by Lukwago, MP Francis Mwijukye, Doreen Nyanjura, among others attended, which Besigye termed as a coincidence.
Of late, FDC party has been experiencing a drastic split as a result of power struggle and financial indiscipline accusations among the top leadership.
