Speaker Anita Recalls MPs to Plenary Amid Urgent Budget Business

Parliament has recalled its members from adjournment to address urgent national business ahead of key budget deadlines.

The House had previously adjourned on 30th October 2025 to allow Members of Parliament to focus on electoral activities. However, Speaker Among emphasized that pressing issues particularly those related to the budget cycle necessitated MPs’ return to the Chambers.

“Thank you to all legislators who responded to this recall despite the demands of the campaign season. Your participation reflects a commendable commitment to national service,” Speaker Among said on X.

The Speaker confirmed that at least one more parliamentary sitting is expected before the end of the year to receive the National Budget Framework Paper. This document, mandated under Section 8(5) of the Public Finance Management Act, 2015, and Rule 152 of the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure, is a critical step in Uganda’s budget preparation and must be submitted before the statutory deadline.

Speaker Among urged election candidates to conduct their campaigns responsibly, prioritizing legality and the nation’s collective welfare.

She expressed appreciation for MPs who, despite losing party primaries or choosing not to seek re-election, returned to Parliament to continue contributing to national business, describing their actions as a true demonstration of patriotism and duty.
