The security personnel are on high alert as the pilgrims make their way into the shrines to celebrate the martyr’s day.

Equipped with high-tech machines, the security manning the shrines is a cocktail of different security organs, which are the Uganda Police, Counter Terrorism Police and the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF).

There is a massive deployment of different security personnel from different security organs in and around the shrines. One can not walk for more than 50 meters without meeting security personnel.

“We made deployments all over the shrines so that our security and the security of our pilgrims is not compromised.” Assistant Inspector General of Police Abasi Byakugaba said.

Byakugaba also said, “We are equipped with the latest machinery to detect danger and suspicious activity going on in and outside the shrines. We have the main control room where we access all the cameras in and around the shrines, and we also have the Scene of Crime Van (SOC), where we detect finger prints of known criminals. Lastly, we have the MANZ van for our commandos, as you can see them up there inspecting any suspicious activities.”

Police assured the pilgrims that “all the pilgrims’ safety here and back home is paramount to us, so let them pray and also pray for us.”
