Security Arrests Tik Toker that Confessed to Terrorism in Kasese District

The Directorate of Crime Intelligence in liaison with the territorial Police at Lugazi, have successfully tracked down Resto Kalenzi, an individual who in proclaimed himself as a member of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist organization.

In a viral TikTok video, the 25 year suspect, claimed to have taken part in the recent attack at Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe-Kasese District, which claimed the lives of 42 people.

Kalenzi in the same video confessed to have participated in the Kampala Central Police Station and Parliamentary Avenue bombings last year.

“ I am one of the ADF rebels that killed about 70 people even if reports are showing a lesser number. We shall keep bombing you like what we did at parliamentary avenue in 2021,” Kalenzi said.

According to Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson, Hellen Butoto, the arrest was made following the circulation of a video on TikTok, where Kalenzi proudly confessed to have involvement in various attacks in Uganda.

“Kalenzi has been taken into custody at the Central Police Station in Lugazi. The investigation into his alleged participation in the attack is currently underway. Lugazi Police, in coordination with relevant authorities, will conduct a thorough examination of all evidence and gather further information,” Butoto said.

Butoto assured the public that they are committed to bringing all individuals involved in this act of terrorism and violence, to justice.

She urged the public to remain vigilant, while reporting any suspicious activities or information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.

Kalenzi is a shop attendant and resident of Namengo village in Lugazi Municipality.

Security reports have confirmed that 20 rebel suspects have been arrested in Mpondwe as UPDF continues pursuing other assailants. According to security, so far, three out the six abducted students have returned.
