The commissioning ceremony took place this morning, Wednesday July 16, 2025 at the Rukungiri Municipality headquarters.
In an interview with our news reporter, RDC Steven Nsubuga Bewayo commended the municipality leadership for the initiative, saying it will help people easily identify places within the town.
Municipality Mayor Charles Makuru said this is part of a plan to install road name signposts on all roads in the Municipality in phases. He revealed that 32 signposts have been installed today, and the remaining 28 will be installed next Monday. He also assured the public that more roads will be considered in the next phase.
Rukungiri Municipality Senior Physical Planner Vastine Kenganzi said they chose to use plastic signposts this time because the previous metal ones were being stolen and sold for scrap or welding purposes.
The Town Clerk Isaiah Tumwesigye said the signposts will not only help guide travelers but will also improve security by enabling people to easily identify and report their locations in case of emergencies.
