EXCLUSIVE: Rapper Navio Proves himself a King of Hip Hop in Uganda, Leaves Fans Stunned

Ugandan Rapper, Daniel Lubwama Kigozi aka Navio, has proved that he is king of Hip Hop in Uganda at his concert dubbed 20 Years Of Navio that was held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala Gardens while celebrating 20 years of a successful music career.

Navio, who has over the years pushed boundaries by mixing Hip Hop, Rap, Kadongo Kamu, and Afrobeat that has made his music unique, and had promised a fusion of top-notch talent for his signature hits delivered to excellence.

At the concert, gates were open at around 5:00pm and concert-goers started flocking into the venue. By the time the show began, the venue was full to capacity and it kicked off at around 7:30pm.

The exclusive concert saw many Hip Hop artists such as Lamu, Martha Mukasa, Jay Pac, Nina Rose, Mikey Wine, Maro, and Levixone curtain raise for Navio.

The Uganda’s Gospel Hip Hop start, Levixone was one of those artists that fired up the place when he stepped on the stage that everyone got off from their seats to dance to the gospel music and left the stage after saying a prayer for the revelers.

Minutes after 9:00pm, Legendary artist, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo band came on stage and sang one song, and later invited Navio on stage, where everyone was seen get to their feet to invite the country’s king of Hip Hop.

Navio took his fans through his music that he has sang over the years, and kept mixing the songs he has done with others, like Vamposs, Mulo, Lillian Mbabazi and The Mith.

His songs with longtime friend, The Mith of Klear Kut left some Ugandans wondering if the latter is a Ugandan.

“Is this other guy a Ugandan? How can they sing like these American rappers? I cannot believe that we have such talent in this country,” one of the concert-goers said.

The Hip Hop artist kept on shaking his fans hands, a trend that is common with rappers worldwide. Singer Maro of Mubi Bubbi thanked Navio for inviting him to be part of his 20 years of his music career, adding that he had not been on stage for over two years. This displayed a heart of a true star who wishes everyone success.

Our reporter on the Entertainment team learnt that during his tour in the United States (US), Navio who met Umami Mu Gakino also known by his stage name Jay Pac, a Rwandan rapper, songwriter, and producer, born and raised in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali, and currently resides in Atlanta, GA was also invited to be part of Navio’s concert.

Navio gave his fans a run for their money when he sang for over two hours, showcasing his hits like Njogereza, Nawuliranga, Mad, Hamadi, Kyekyo, Numbers, Rise Up, Kigozi, One and Only, Wind Up, Whistle Song, Rare, Cold, and Survivor, among others.
