President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Maama Janet Museveni, has today, on Saturday, 11th October 2025, officially commissioned the full integration of West Nile into Uganda’s national electricity grid at Namrwodho Primary School Playground in Nebbi District, marking an achievement in the region’s socio-economic transformation.
The historic event drew senior government leaders, ministers, local officials, and thousands of citizens. Among those in attendance were Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Rt. Hon. Secretary General Richard Todwong, His Grace Henry Luke Orombi, Vice Chairpersons for Northern Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Western Regions Minister Anite Evelyn, and Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro.
In his address, President Museveni celebrated the commissioning of the 132kV Kole–Gulu–Nebbi–Arua transmission line, a project that now ensures reliable electricity supply across West Nile.
“I’m pleased that West Nile is now connected to the national grid all the way to Koboko,” he declared, highlighting the project’s potential to stimulate local industries, attract new investments, and drive sustainable socio-economic growth in the region.
The First Lady addressed the gathering, emphasizing the connection between development, peace, and civic responsibility.
“We have only one homeland on this earth, and we must safeguard it. True peace in our country will come from fostering development, prosperity, transformation and preserving them for future generations,” she said.
She also urged citizens to embrace their civic duty, emphasizing that every vote should contribute to peace in Uganda.
“Our responsibility as citizens is clear; vote in a way that safeguards peace for all Ugandans,” the First Lady urged.
The commissioning of the West Nile electricity grid marks more than just a technical achievement; it symbolizes new opportunities, improved livelihoods, and the promise of sustainable growth for the region.
As leaders and citizens celebrated this achievement, the message was clear; development, peace, and civic responsibility must go hand in hand to secure a prosperous future for all Ugandans.
