President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni kicked off a major wealth creation tour of the Sebei sub-region on December 10, 2024, to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM).
While touring the model farm powered by the PDM funding at Kapkole village, Kawowo Sub County, in the Kapchorwa district, the president emphasized the importance of starting small and expanding gradually.
He commended Yapsiwa Doreen for starting her farm with little capital and diversifying into dairy, coffee, and banana farming.
Museveni encouraged Ugandans to avoid waiting for large amounts of money before beginning ventures, stressing that they should work with what they have.
“People are waiting for big things to start, describing it as poisonous. We want the discipline of building from small. Don’t cripple yourself; start with what you have; don’t wait for money from the government,” said President Museveni.
He also visited the farm of Nicholas Limu in Bukwo district, a secondary school teacher who started his farm in the early 2000s and later transformed it into a commercial venture in 2009 after successfully receiving the President’s message.
Limu’s farm generates over Shs40 million annually, and President Museveni praised his commitment to wealth creation.
The president addressed the issue of animal feed shortages, stating that he had instructed the National Enterprises Company (NEC) to manufacture feeds regionally, ending the need to import from Kenya.
He donated Shs10 million to Limu to expand his farm and gave Yapsiwa Doreen a Fuso truck and another Shs10 million to support her farming efforts.
At his four-acre land, Limu has a dairy farm, poultry, coffee, and a banana plantation, which gives him more than Shs40 million yearly.
“I have talked to Gen. James Mugira to ensure that zone by zone, NEC can produce chicken feeds and animal feeds in every region so that they don’t have to go to Kampala to purchase feeds. Imagine, up to now, they are still importing feeds from Kenya; that must stop. We must solve the link between the farm and animal feeds,” said the President.
President Museveni also donated Shs10 million to Limu to add more animals and also donated a Fuso truck to Yapsiwa and Shs10 million to support her ventures.
“I detected the problem of means of transport affecting farmers in this area; I am tempted to give a fuso truck to Yapsiwa Doreen to transport her farm products to the market. But don’t overcharge my people. I give you Shs10 million to buy two more cows,” said the President.
Yapsiwa informed the President that when she got the Shs1 million from the PDM, she had to top it up to buy a big heifer using the money made from banana sales.
“I got PDM, but the money was not enough to buy a big cow, so I sold my banana and used the money to top it up.
On Wednesday, the president is expected to hold a special meeting with Sebei sub region leaders in Kween district to discuss wealth creation strategies.
