The Director of Counter Terrorism Uganda Police, AIGP Abas Byakagaba, has advised the trained personnel to use their newly learned abilities to improve service delivery and efficiency in policing.
The remarks were delivered on August 17, 2023, during the pass-out ceremony of 78 officers who underwent training on the Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) at Uganda Police ICT Research Development and Innovation Centre in Kikandwa, Wakiso district.
Byakagaba noted the importance of officers becoming a multiplier effect and encouraged them to embrace a proactive approach to learning in order to fully execute the mandate of the Uganda Police force.
“In today’s global village, survival hinges on self-improvement and skill acquisition to secure our people, and we need to embrace that,” Byakagaba noted.
He also urged the officers to identify themselves not just as distinct units but as a unified entity, interdependent on one another’s strengths and capabilities.
Byakagaba said that the officers have been selected from various units with the common goal of supporting one another, and working as one cell for best results.
According to SCP Yusuf Sewanyana, the Director of ICT, the acquired knowledge of ITMS serves as a crucial foundation to the existing expertise in the CCTV System within the force.
“I have expressed greater gratitude towards Global Security for enhancing the police officers with ICT skills,” Sewanyana said.
Sewanyana added that, the insights gained in ICT will pave way for optimizing the work of the Uganda Police Force through digitalization and automation, extending to projects like CCTV, among others.
The training was conducted in collaboration with the Russian company Global Security.
ITMS is a combination of sensing, analysis, control, and communication technologies that improves ground for transportation of safety, mobility, and efficiency while providing a comprehensive security solution.
