Uganda Police has issued a traffic flow plan for the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) summit scheduled for January 9-11, 2025.
The event, part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 initiative, aims to advance agricultural development to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty across Africa.
In preparation for the large influx of delegates, the Uganda Traffic Police have announced several significant traffic diversions to ensure smooth movement during the event.
Speaking at the weekly security briefing at Naguru police headquarters on January 6, 2025, traffic Spokesperson Michael Kananura said that the main routes to Munyonyo, including the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway and the Northern Bypass, will be affected.
“Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes, the main routes will be Kampala Entebbe-express way to Munyonyo, Northern by pass-Entebbe Express way,” Kananura said.
“Delegates will be traveling along these routes, which are expected to experience slower traffic flow and occasional roadblocks,” he added.
Authorities said that in order to minimize disruption, traffic will be diverted to alternative routes such as Nakawuka from Kisubi and diversions at key locations like Kajansi, Serena Kigo, and Buziga.
However, motorcycles will be restricted from these roads during the event, and security and traffic personnel will be present to direct the flow of vehicles.
These traffic restrictions, the police said, are anticipated as more than 2,000 guests are expected to attend the summit, and almost all delegates will be using Entebbe International Airport as their main entry point into the country.
Uganda Traffic Police have therefore called upon residents to plan their trips carefully and avoid main routes during this period.
