The Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Central region, Frank Gashumba, has called upon the league’s supporters and well-wishers to rally behind the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate in the forthcoming general elections in 2026, in support of sustainable economic development and peace in Uganda.
According to Gashumba, PLU will operate independently but behind Museveni, stating that Museveni is the leader where every river flows.
He made the remarks while speaking to the coordinators of PLU from different divisions of Kamapla who gathered at the PLU secretariat office in Naguru to craft a way forward to mobilise and welcome President Museveni, who is expected to move his presidential campaign trail in the Central Region.
He, however, warned NRM supporters who are already celebrating the victory of President Museveni, stressing that they should rather work hard with PLU to secure Museveni’s victory in the forthcoming general elections.
“In the real world, they don’t celebrate a mature pregnancy but the one who has delivered. We shall celebrate Museveni after winning the elections.PLU will use its structures from village to national level,” Gashumba said.
He also encouraged supporters to vote and leave the polling stations, then later go back in the evening to confirm the performance of their candidate, adding a warning that they should desist from causing violence because security is to deal with such elements.
“Youth don’t protest on the polling day because the security will deal with you because President Museveni can’t fail to ensure a peaceful Uganda. If he has been able to maintain regional peace, how much more will he maintain it in Nansana or any part of this country?” Gashumba said.
Gashumba also appealed to the NRM supporters to protect their vote, stating that everyone has the right to support any candidate they want.
“You should come out to defend his vote. Don’t fight opposition supporters, but when they fight, you fight back because everyone has the right to support any candidate of their choice,” Gashumba said.
Gashumba also welcomed all the league supporters to always seek support from the head offices, which will be operational 24/7. He revealed that they are planning to establish a team that will be responsible for responding to challenges encountered by the foot soldiers in the different parts of Uganda.
Sanjay Tanna, the former Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, said that all Ugandans should have a goal of supporting Museveni to ensure the prevailing peace in Uganda for economic growth and development.
“I have travelled to different countries in the world, but the peace we have in Uganda should not be taken for granted, and the only way to maintain it is to support President Museveni,” Sanjay said.
The interim PLU National Chairman, Michael Nuwagira, popularly known as Toyota, commended the leaders of PLU from the five divisions of Kampala for the tremendous work they are doing concerning securing an 80 percent victory for the NRM candidate.
“I want to thank you for your efforts in supporting the H.E. the President. I am happy with your statistics of voters in the central region. This shows that you have taken a scientific approach in these elections, which is the sure way of securing victory. Elections are not mainly about the vibe, it’s scientific and needs such an approach,” Nuwagira said.
According to the presidential campaign programme from the Electoral Commission, President Museveni is expected to spread his gospel of protecting the gains in the central region this month.
