The statement highlighted that both sides presented updates on steps taken to reduce tensions and advance implementation on the ground. These updates followed earlier consultations held in Washington on March 17th–18th, 2026, which also focused on confidence-building measures.

“Bwekumbule’s detention is viewed as an attempt to shield some leaders from public accountability which is unacceptable. The Association therefore demands that he unconditionally be released or produced before court if he is suspected to have committed any crime,” the statement read in part.

“Replace the sovereignty bill with a national civic defense program, disaster response, and defense skills. Include the diaspora through embassies instead of criminalizing them. Ensure parliamentary oversight to prevent abuse, because this is the only way we shall adequately promote true sovereignty,” Nsereko said.
AGRA has also aligned with frameworks such as the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme and supported access to climate financing through the Green Climate Fund to boost resilience among smallholder farmers.
