The National Unity Platform (NUP) activist, Habib Buwembo has been denied bail and sent on remand to Luzira prison till October 10, 2023.

While appearing before HW Rehema Nassozi, the Principle Grade One Magistrate at City Hall Court in Kampala, Buwembo was charged with posting malicious information against the person of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.

On September 21, 2023, Buwembo posted on his personal Facebook page content where he referred to Anita Among as a Karamoja iron sheet thief.

While attempting to hold a press conference in Nalukolongo zone in Rubaga parish on September 22, 2023, Buwembo alongside Sharif Kawooya and Nasser Katende were arrested and kept at Nateete Police post.

According to Ronald Katushabe, the lawyer representing Buwembo, the State is just playing games with his client and claims that it has no serious charge to prefer against him.

“We shall push on until we get justice for our client,” Katushabe said.

Buwembo Joined the National Unity Platform early this year from the Forum for Democratic Change and was a former aspirant for Rubaga South Member of Parliamentary seat which he lost to Aloysius Mukasa of the NUP party. He had previously worked closely with the Speaker of Parliament while still in FDC. People who have been close to the two have said that they want to see where the battle between the two former allies will end.
