The National Information Technology Authority (NITA) has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness on cybersecurity, data protection, and privacy, both online and offline. The campaign, dubbed ‘Beera Ku Guard’, highlights the government’s commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and accountable digital ecosystem.

Launched on September 3, 2025, the campaign runs under the theme “Building Public Trust in Uganda’s Data Systems.” It will span six months, leveraging mass media, digital platforms, and institutional engagements to maximize impact and nationwide reach.

Dr. Arnold Mangeni, Director of Information Security at NITA, emphasized the urgency of the initiative, noting that as digital interactions become central to daily life, cybersecurity must become second nature.

“Digital safety must be as instinctive as locking your front door. We urge every Ugandan to double-check before they click, share, or give away their data,” Mangeni said.

He added that public trust and safety are critical for national digital transformation:

“We cannot talk about a modern, digital Uganda without putting safety and trust at the center. ‘Beera Ku Guard’ is a call to action for every citizen, public servant, and private actor to safeguard personal data and use digital platforms responsibly.”

The campaign brings together government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and citizens, reinforcing the shared responsibility of protecting Uganda’s digital environment.

NITA will adopt a multi-platform approach to reach communities across the country. This includes media campaigns, online content, and interactive engagements with institutions. The goal is to build public trust in Uganda’s data systems, reduce vulnerability to cyber threats, and encourage citizens to adopt safer digital habits.
