Police have announced regulations regarding fireworks displays as the country prepares for the New Year celebration.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, while giving an update on December 30th, 2024, at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, revealed that only 2,900 approved locations across the country are allowed, with each display limited to a five-minute duration.

“Only licensed companies, such as Tomil Fireworks Ltd, Fireworks 7000 Ltd, Flames Uganda Ltd, Quality Lighting Uganda Fireworks Ltd, and Light Africa Ltd, were authorized to conduct fireworks displays,” Rusoke said.

According to him, the District Police Commanders (DPCs) hold the authority to halt any display that does not meet the necessary safety standards.

However, Rusoke warned against the burning of tires and shooting firearms into the air during celebrations.

The police spokesperson said that those involved will be arrested and charged.

Police issued more safety guidelines during the New Year celebrations, including the use of plastic bottles at crowded venues and the banning of glass and metal bottles.
