Uganda has taken a historic step toward strengthening its justice system with the groundbreaking ceremony of the country’s first-ever Prosecutors’ Academy in Nakasongola.

The ceremony, held on Friday, 12th September, 2025, marked the beginning of a new era in prosecutorial training and excellence.

Presiding over the event, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, described the academy as “a seed of transformative change” that will grow into “a tree of knowledge, integrity, and excellence for prosecutors in Uganda.”

The academy is envisioned as a center of excellence, designed to equip prosecutors with advanced skills, foster research into emerging crimes, and promote ethical reflection.

It will feature state-of-the-art training facilities and residential accommodation for both trainers and trainees, creating a fully immersive learning environment.

Justice Abodo emphasized that the institution will not only enhance prosecutorial skills but also instil values of fairness, integrity, and professionalism.

“Here we will sharpen legal minds, nurture values of fairness and integrity, standardize best practices, and build a unified prosecutorial force that serves Uganda with both skill and honour,” the DPP said.

The ODPP expressed gratitude to the Internal Security Organization (ISO) for donating land for the facility, highlighting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in strengthening national security.

The late Brigadier General Charles Oluka was recognized for his pivotal role in securing this milestone.

Representing the ISO Director General, George Baguma reaffirmed the agency’s commitment, noting that strong justice institutions are just as vital to national security as military strength.

The groundbreaking ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the foundation stone and the planting of symbolic trees by the DPP, the Permanent Secretary, and the ISO representative.
