President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the people of Kalaki for their bravery and patriotism in helping restore peace in the Teso sub-region, describing them as key partners in Uganda’s liberation and national development journey.
Addressing a campaign rally at Kalaki Primary School on Friday, 31st October, 2025, the President, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, thanked the residents for standing firm during the difficult years of rebel attacks and cattle rustling.
“We fought the rebels and cattle rustlers, and I must salute Kalaki because you helped us defeat Tabule. He once tried to ambush me but escaped before I caught him. I thank you, the Arrow Boys,” President Museveni said.
He emphasized that the peace currently enjoyed in Teso and across Uganda is the result of cooperation between patriotic citizens and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“Because of your courage, we now have peace. Peace is the foundation of everything; without it, there can be no development,” he added.
Museveni highlighted that the NRM government prioritizes national security, followed by infrastructure development, including roads, electricity, water, and communication networks.
He assured the people of Teso of the government’s commitment to consolidating both peace and prosperity in the region.
The President also praised residents for supporting programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, urging them to use these initiatives to create wealth.
“We bring the infrastructure, you create the prosperity,” he said, encouraging residents to actively utilize government projects.
The First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, thanked the people of Kalaki for maintaining peace and turning out in large numbers, noting that Uganda’s stability is a national blessing that must be jealously guarded.
“There is no place like Uganda on earth, and no people conduct peaceful elections like Ugandans. Every adult has a responsibility to protect this peace,” she said.
Local leaders, including Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among and NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Calvin Echodu, pledged continued collaboration with government to ensure Kalaki benefits fully from ongoing development projects.
As the rally concluded, President Museveni urged Ugandans to value and safeguard the hard-earned peace, using it as a springboard for economic transformation and national prosperity.
“Sustaining peace is a shared responsibility and the key to unlocking greater prosperity. Let us protect the stability achieved under the NRM and use it as a foundation for wealth creation and national transformation,” he noted.
