President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved three new Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs in Ntungamo, Bushenyi and Kalangala as government moves to widen access to vocational training for vulnerable youth.
The development was announced by the State House Comptroller, Jane Barekye on Monday, August 24th, 2026, during engagements at the Ankole and Greater Masaka Zonal Presidential Industrial Skilling Hubs.
Barekye said the new centres will ease pressure on existing hubs, where demand for the limited training slots remains high. The Ankole hub, for instance, serves 17 administrative units, with some receiving an average of only 14 slots per intake.
For young people in Kalangala, the new hub will also reduce the cost and difficulty of travelling to mainland centres for training.
Meanwhile, the State House Director of Presidential Projects and Industrial Hubs, Eng. Raymond Kamugisha said the expansion will come with four new courses, including weaving and knitting, plumbing, electrical installation and electrical wiring.
Kamugisha also highlighted relaxed admission requirements for vulnerable youth without National IDs, allowing them to present recommendation letters from their LC1 chairpersons as they work to obtain identification.
He further urged skilling graduates to take advantage of SACCO financing to turn their skills into businesses and sustainable sources of income.
Rodgers Bulegeya, the Chairperson of the Greater Masaka Zonal Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub, called for increased enrolment, proposing that the number of beneficiaries rise from 24 to 100 young people per district.
The three new hubs are expected to bring vocational training closer to vulnerable youth while strengthening government efforts to promote skills, jobs and entrepreneurship.
