The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Joel Ssenyonyi, has urged the government of Uganda to support the people who were involved in the unfortunate incident that occurred in Kigogwa town along Kampala-Bombo Road in Kasangati, Wakiso district, when a fuel tanker overturned and exploded, claiming the lives of over 15 people.
“I would like to call upon the government: let’s help these people; let’s support them as expeditiously as we possibly can. Many have died, and many are in hospitals; they need support; let’s support them,” Ssenyonyi said.

Ssenyonyi made this call on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, during the plenary sitting at parliament.
He joined the Speaker Anita Annet Among and other Members of Parliament in expressing sympathies toward families that lost their loved ones in that unfortunate incident.
Additionally, he encouraged the citizens to be vigilant and avoid certain grievous incidents, although they wanted to get some money for the day.
“I do extend my sympathies and commiserations to the families,” he noted.

Ssenyonyi asked the government to quickly and adequately compensate those who lost lives, sustained injuries, and lost property during the fire.
On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, a fuel tanker that was traveling from Kampala to Gulu overturned and caught fire, claiming the lives of over 15 people in Kigogwa town along Bombo Road.
