The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has urged local governments to implement proper revenue mobilisation strategies for increased revenue in the country.

While addressing key stakeholders at the launch of the Own Source Local Government Revenue Mobilisation Strategy (OSLGRMS) on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, the Manager of Revenue Reconciliation at URA, Kelemensio Busingye, urged local government leaders and key stakeholders to always hold regular stakeholder engagements, sensitise and train staff and clients, release funds to the local governments, and expedite the rollout of collection systems to all local governments, among others.

“With the above-mentioned strategies, I therefore implore our stakeholders in this OSLGRM strategy to support us to achieve the set objectives in this strategy, and this is where our stakeholders and development partners can support us so that together we liberate Uganda out of economic dependency,” Busingye said.

Busingye asked key holders to adapt to the changes in technological advancements through different innovations.

“Local governments should therefore anticipate emerging IT trends and be proactive in adapting the processes, procedures, and systems to also meet the changing needs of our taxpayers,” Busingye added.

The meeting, which was organised by the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Uganda Revenue Authority, was attended by members of Parliamentary Committees, the Local Government Finance Commission, Permanent Secretaries, Development Partners, Local Government Leaders, and members of civil society.
