Local trade and traffic along the Kampala‑Masaka highway came to a standstill as National Unity Platform (NUP) party President Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu in the morning hours of Monday, 3rd November, 2025 made his way to Gomba and Butambala districts for week six of his presidential campaign trail.
Starting from Bwaise roundabout, supporters flocked to join the motorcade, escorting Kyagulanyi through Busega, Kyengera, and all the way to Mpigi town.
The massive turnout forced many roadside businesses, shops, and market vendors to close temporarily, effectively paralyzing local commerce in the area during the morning hours.
While addressing supporters at the party headquarters at Makerere Kavule, Kyagulanyi urged calm among his supporters.
“We are heading to Gomba to preach the gospel of protest vote and we shall reach every part of the country fighting for change, and together we shall get the change we deserve,” Kyagulanyi said.
On his way, the NUP President made occasional waves and interactions with the eager people on the street chanting their way to Butambala District.
Sserunkuma Ronald, a resident of Kyengera said that for long residents of Kyengera have been preparing for the NUP president to pass by.
“Many times, we have waited for our party President to wave to us and speak to us but on many occasions he has been diverted away from Kyengere but at least today Kyengera residents had a game at him and for us that’s enough he doesn’t have to campaign here,” Sserunkuma said.
Kyagulanyi will campaign in Gomba and Butambala today before proceeding to Lyantonde, sembabule, Kazo, kiruhura, , Isingiro Mbarara district, Mbarara city, Rwampara and Ntungamo for his 6th week of the presidential campaign trail.
