Police in Kiboga are holding a 41-year-old, Thomas Aliwo Mubi, for allegedly poisoning and killing his two biological children.
The incident happened at Magi village, Kasega parish, Kapeke subcounty in Kiboga district on December 10, 2024.
Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson Rachel Kawala said that earlier police investigations suggested that Mubi had been taking care of the children after their mother left him before moving to Kayunga in search of work but was unsuccessful, then travelled to Hoima City hoping to meet his father in vain.
According to Kawala, on the day of the incident, Mubi stopped in a village and entered a building belonging to Betty Namuli without her knowledge.
It is alleged that he administered poison to his children, causing their immediate death.
The victims, identified as Thomas Bugembe 6 and Praise Kabanda, 4 were found dead by the police with a foul-smelling poisonous substance flowing from their mouths.
The bodies of the deceased children, Kawala said, which were taken to Kiboga mortuary await a post-mortem examination, and it was established that the father wanted to kill the children and flee away for his own survival alone.
This tragic event has raised significant concern within the community regarding child safety and domestic issues.
