The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced that the much-anticipated Kampala City Festival 2025 will now take place on 12th October, a week later than the original date of 5th October.
The adjustment comes to allow the city to focus on Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations, scheduled for 9th October at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Uganda Media Center, the KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki explained that the date change ensures both events receive the attention and preparation they deserve.
“Independence Day is a critical moment for our nation, and as the host city, Kampala must provide the necessary environment for it to be celebrated smoothly,” Buzeki said.
She added that the postponement provides additional time to finalize logistical, security, and technical arrangements without compromising quality.
“The Kampala City Festival will now be held on 12th October 2025, and we are ready to deliver a memorable experience,” she noted.
The decision followed consultations with government and security agencies to coordinate traffic management, security measures, and technical requirements, especially considering the scale of Independence Day celebrations in the capital.
Returning after several years of absence, the festival will be staged under the theme “Innovation, Culture, and Sustainability” at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The event will feature a grand citywide procession leading into activity zones that include the Main Stage, Wainchi Stage, Halal Village, Christian Stage, and a Children’s Zone.
Festival organizers reassured the public that all planned performances, exhibitions, and parades will proceed as scheduled. The extra preparation time will also allow improvements to infrastructure, signage, and technical setups to enhance the overall festival experience.
The Kampala City Festival, often described as East Africa’s biggest street party, attracts thousands of visitors, artists, and traders, providing a significant boost to tourism and the local economy.
Buzeki concluded by assuring that although the festival date has shifted, its spirit and celebration of Kampala’s culture, resilience, and creativity remain unchanged.
“Even with the date shift, we are committed to delivering a festival that celebrates the heart and spirit of our city,” Buzeki emphasized.
The new date allows organizers to fine-tune arrangements, ensuring that Kampala City Festival 2025 continues to boost tourism, support local businesses, and celebrate the city’s vibrant lifestyle.
