A joint security force has arrested the most wanted notorious criminal gang leader behind robbery and murder cases within Kampala and the Greater Masaka region.

The suspect, identified as Ronald Mbazira, also known as Magezi, a 24-year-old resident of Ngobe Bunamwaya, according to police, has masterminded about 13 aggravated robbery cases.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said eight cases were committed within Kampala, while a total of five were recorded from the greater Masaka area.

“The suspect was intercepted while driving a motor vehicle registration number UBJ 267T along Namasole Road while on a robbery mission; he escaped from police while being transported for medical examination at Katwe Central Police Station,” said Enanga.

According to SCP Enanga, the suspect was later re-arrested on July 31st, 2023, from  modern guest house in Kabawo Zone, Mutundwe parish in Rubaga Division, alongside his accomplices Jamil Ssendula, also known as Younger, and Fahad Akandwanaho, also known as Paul.

Police noted that the group has been using machetes and iron bars.

They have conducted various home invasion attacks and robberies of various residences, including one of Julius Muzito’s Ziranumbu cells in Busabala Parish in Makindye, where he was robbed of 90 million shillings in cash.

“The gang admitted to having participated in eight aggravated robberies in the Kampala area, revealing that on May 5, 2023, they broke into the home of Ruth Bihungilo, a 42-year-old woman’s home, in Walufumbe zone, Kyanja parish, Kira Municipality, and robbed an SAR gun from a security guard of SEK security, two TV flat screens, and eight million shillings,” said Enanga.

According to police, the gang carried out a number of robberies around Kampala, including that of China State Construction Company, where they made off with 3 mobile phones and 300 USD; another robbery of a Sudanese national, making off with 6 mobile phones and 500,000 shillings; and one Yudaya Nalukwago, robbing her of 7.8 million shillings, 500USD, and 7 mobile phones.

Enanga noted that once police intensified the search for the gang, they shifted their base to Nyendo-Mukungwe division in Masaka city, where they participated in five aggravated robberies.

Police have recovered an SAR gun, pistol, four flat TV screens, head masks, housebreaking implements, and master keys, among others.
