Judiciary  Invites the Public to Engage with the Justice System ahead of Open Court Day

The Judiciary has rallied the public to attend the National Open Court Day slated for April 15, 2024, so that they can interact with the justice system.

The Judiciary Public Relations Officer, His Worship James Ereemye Jumire Mawanda, and Her Worship Mary Kaitesi, Registrar Research Planning and Development, confirmed the development during a press briefing held on April 11, 2024, at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala.

The press conference aimed to inform the public about the preparations for the Open Day, which will see the participation of key judicial institutions, including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, all Divisions of the High Court, the Inspectorate of Courts, the Judicial Training Institute, and Magistrates Courts in Kampala. These institutions will showcase their roles and functions to the public, offering insights into the workings of the judiciary.

The National Court Open Day will run under the theme ”A People-Centered Approach to Justice”, which aligns with the Judiciary’s main theme for the year.

HW Kaitesi emphasized the importance of focusing on the needs and experiences of the people in the pursuit of justice. She added that the event is expected to draw participants from various sectors, including government, civil society Organizations, corporations, and other justice actors.

”The public is encouraged to attend the National Court Open Day in large numbers, providing an opportunity to engage with court services, understand different court processes, and offer feedback on their experiences. The event aims to promote transparency, accountability, and public participation in the judicial system, fostering a better understanding of the role of the judiciary in society,” Kaitesi said.

The event will showcase the judiciary’s dedication to a people-centered approach to justice. It is an opportunity for the public to engage with the judiciary, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the legal processes that shape our society.

The event will be presided over by the Chief Justice of Uganda, Alfonse Owiny-Dollo.
