Govt to Construct, Rehabilitate Dilapidated Schools for Improved Education

Government, through the Ministry of Education and Sports is set to rehabilitate dilapidated schools and construct new ones to improve the education system across the country.

The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, stated that these are efforts geared towards the forthcoming compulsory universal education, as directed by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janat Kataha Museveni.

He made these remarks while addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on March 19, 2024, ahead of the commemoration of the International Day of Education, scheduled for March 20, 2024, at Kololo ceremonial grounds tomorrow.

According to Muyingo, over UGX120 billion has been put aside to rehabilitate all the primary schools, adding that the ministry is also going to construct 247 seed schools.

He stated that the ministry has constructed more classrooms, and all these efforts underscore the dedication to providing quality education and building a brighter future in the educational sector of Uganda.

According to the Ministry of Education and Sports, UGX120 billion will be used for the rehabilitation and construction of the schools, while an additional UGX309 billion will be provided to support the rollout of primary and secondary compulsory education.
