The Deputy Secretary to the Treasury (DST), Patrick Ocailap today chaired the 57th public expenditure management committee meeting (PEMCOM) which approved the new Public Financial Management Reform Strategy (PFMRS) for the period 2025-2030.
The strategy aims to improve public financial management systems and processes, with a focus on improving service delivery and boosting economic growth.
“I wish to observe that the PFM Reform dialogue framework continues to evolve and I am glad to note that our partners are responding positively to the effort,” Ocailap said.
According to Ocailap, Uganda has been implementing PFM reforms since 1980’s to improve transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
On behalf of the Development Partners, Philips Smith (Co-Chair), who is also the Head of Development Cooperation at the British High Commission, pledged support for the new strategy and offered to collaborate strategically with the World Bank and other Partners in ensuring PFMRS is effectively implemented.
Smith also congratulated government, particularly the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (mofpedU) for the steadfast commitment to strengthening public financial management systems and processes.
The meeting also discussed the new aspects of the PFM strategic direction including, Climate resilience in planning and implementation of programmes.
