FDC’s Nandala Mafabi Nominated ,Promises to Bring Back Original Cooperative Societies

The Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has today, September, 24th, 2025 nominated the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party Presidential flag bearer, Nathan Nandala Mafabi.

The event that started at exactly 10:00 am lasted at least 30 minutes at the Electoral Commission’s new home in Lubowa along  Kigo road.

While nominating Mafabi, Justice Byabakama said that Nathan Nandala Mafabi the candidate of FDC has satisfied all the requirements and has been nominated as a presidential candidate under the presidential nominations act.

“We have checked and verified the aspirants papers and we find them in order that he has fulfilled the requirements for nominations under the presidential elections act, and I hereby announce Nandala Mafabi Nathan of the FDC as a duly nominated candidate for the presidential. Election 2026 -2031, you walked in as an Aspirant now you will work out as a candidate,” Byabakama said.

Byabakama also noted that no processions will be allowed to and from the electoral offices to the rallies and that each candidate will be assigned with a security vehicle from the commission.

“The commission allows the candidates to speak to the media at the allowed place  and those wishing to talk to their supporters are allowed to do so after coordinating with the authority, also we are assigning each presidential candidate with one security vehicle and sixteen security officers,” Byabakama added.

After being nominated, while speaking to the media at the EC nominating centre in Luboowa, Mafabi thanked the EC for nominating him and also thanked his party for supporting him and trusting him as the presidential flag bearer and said he has the experience and expertise not to let them down.

“I have been an MP for 25 years for Budadiri west. Have worked for World Bank and IMF and still consult for them on finances. Have been leader of opposition, headed Public Accounts Committee of Parliament twice, am the chairman of Bugisu Cooperative Union the only surviving cooperative union in Uganda and I promise I have the experience not to let you down, ” Mafabi said.

Mafabi also noted that he will make sure all original cooperative societies are revitalized to make sure that people go back to earn and have money in their pockets and will add more money in the agricultural sector.

” We will invest more in agriculture because as a cooperative leader I know how agriculture if well supported will eradicate Poverty in this country which is high, poverty is how you leave your daily life, able to feed, having a roof, being able to take kids to school and afford other essentials and I promise we will prioritise house hold incomes, ” Mafabi added.

FDC’s Mafabi became the fourth candidate to be nominated joining incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement(NRM), Mabirizi Elton of Conservative Party and Kasibante Robert of National Peasants Party.

According to the EC program, nominations for presidential candidate end today 24th, September 2025 and the EC is yet to Nominate Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform(NUP) and Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National transformation (ANT) .
