The Democratic Party President, Norbert Mao, has called Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Capital City Lord Mayor a disgrace to his people.
On Tuesday, 11th March 2025, while addressing a weekly press conference at the DP headquarters, Mao, also the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, described Lukwago as the worst lord mayor of Kampala City.
“He should go to Gulu to do benchmarking because whatever is in Gulu we did it without changing the government in Kampala,” Mao stated.
Mao also used the briefing to present the concurrent resolutions of the DP 12th National Council and National Executive Committee meeting held on March 5th–7th, 2025, at May 7 Gardens, Soroti City.
According to Mao, the current Lord Mayor is a disgrace because a mayor is supposed to focus on and serve people.
“I was a local government leader, and we did what we needed to do without changing the government and continued to change what needed to be changed in the government. So, if you are a mayor, you must love Kampala and its people,” he added.
He stated Lukwago unfairly fought DP leaders before joining FDC, where he later betrayed its leadership, and now the same Lukwago has joined the People’s Front for Freedom.
Mao emphasized that DP has no room for those who are opposed to constructive engagement and advised those who want to bring change to do it intelligently.
After holding two meetings in Soroti City, DP produced ten resolutions, including the Cooperation Agreement between DP and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to be formally received and adopted as a working document of the party.
Lukwago has not been able to comment on Minister Mao’s claim.
