Dissolving FDC is Wishful Thinking and Delusional—FDC to Katonga Faction

Despite the strong quest for reconciliation from Najjanankumbi, the leadership at Katonga seems to be determined to maintain their way to the formalization of the new political party, the People's Front for Freedom (PFF).

The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has made it clear to the breakaway Katonga group that the dream of dissolving the mother party FDC is wishful thinking and delusional because it’s evident that the FDC is ideologically stronger today than ever before.

According to Jack Sabiiti, the FDC National Party chairman, the Katonga leadership led by Erias Lukwago sought to hijack the FDC party’s mission under petty grievances, but the FDC leadership is focused on regaining power from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) rather than engaging in chicken fights.

“These opportunist events took the party to court to injunct out activities on flimsy, frivolous, and vexatious claims, but the party touched them and scattered them back to the drawing board at Katonga. I hear they are regrouped under a shadowy organization they call PFF and purported to dissolve FDC. Of course, that is wishful thinking and delusional,” Sabiiti said.

While addressing the 18th National Council Meeting held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Sabiiti urged members to remain focused, stating that it is better to look where they are going than to see where they have been.

Gilbert Oulanya, the Member of Parliament for Kilak South on the FDC party ticket, said that the time has come for a farmer to differentiate between a weed and the real millet, referring to Katonga leaders as weed and those at Najjanankumbi as the millet.

“Let me tell you, when the millet is growing, it grows together with the weed, but when it comes to the harvest time, the farmer separates the millet from the weed. Let them compete with us to grow, but we shall know them by their fruits. I appeal to you to focus more on the future of the party than on those pretenders. FDC is the real millet,” he said.

However, Frank Nabwiso, a top leader of the FDC special elder’s committee, appealed to Kizza Besigye to seek reconciliation rather than creating parallel organizations with no strong agenda. According to Nabwiso, if a married man experiences a misunderstanding with his wife, he does not run away immediately to construct a new home, stating that reconciliation would be a better way for the married man.

However, despite the strong quest for reconciliation from Najjanankumbi, the leadership at Katonga seems to be determined to maintain their way to the formalization of the new political party, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF). This indicates that it is time for the two factions to focus on what matters to them in preparation for the general elections in 2026.
