The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who also serves as the Bishop of Kampala Diocese, has consecrated Rev. Canon Frederick Jackson Baalwa as the 5th Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese.

Canon Baalwa was consecrated during the opening of the new modernized 5,000-seater All Saints’ Cathedral Nakasero, Kampala, on November 1, 2024, a function that was graced by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni.

During the ceremony, now Rt. Rev. Baalwa thanked the Diocese of Kampala for entrusting him with service, promising to ensure individual economic transformation in the city, and vowed to preach against fake gospel in the city.

“It would be a desire to focus on intentional discipleship. We have many challenges of eclectic teaching in the city. We need equipped people to reach out. The way to go is to disciple people to grow through small groups, but I would also want it to be a church that looks beyond the four walls of the church building,” he said.

Bishop Baalwa promised to equip Christians in Kampala with prayer and encouragement to safeguard them against fake prophecy. He promised to move in the footsteps of his predecessor, the Rt. Rev. Hannington Mutebi.

“Due to challenges in urban areas, many people in the city need support and encouragement all the time; prayer becomes an anchor for their faith in God. However, because many people are not equipped to pray, they always look for experts in prayer who can prophesize on their lies and pray for them. We must aim at being a praying church and equip our Christians to learn to pray,” he added.
