Busoga Kingdom has dismissed rumours being speculated in a document that has been circulating on social media in which the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu was being urged to annul the wedding of the Kyabazinga William Gabula.

Katikiro Joseph Muvawala while speaking to the media on November 11, 2023, said that, the document should be disregarded, stressing that, the wedding will go on this month as planned.

According to the Attorney General of the Kingdom, Alex Muganda, the Archbishop has confirmed how he didn’t issue any certificate cancelling the royal wedding.

“In consultation with the Archbishop, he confirmed that there is no certificate that was attached, in the said letter written to them but also as a kingdom. I just wanted to put it clear that, the Kyabazinga has never been married anywhere in Uganda or outside Uganda,” Muganda noted.

Muganda also revealed that, four people have been arrested in connection with the document, adding that, they are helping security with more information.

“The known form of marriage and even the search was conducted in the UK. Security has been notified and they have commenced investigation with the persons who have been perpetrating this false information and already, about four people have been apprehended in line with the same and they are helping the security with further useful information,” he said.

The Busoga Kingdom royal wedding is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja City. The couple will have a church wedding and the queen to be, Jovia Mutesi, will be publicly introduced as the Inhebantu of Busoga Kingdom.

The wedding will be a historic event as Busoga has not experienced a King’s wedding for the last 69 years. It has attracted several contributors ranging from government, Politicians, Companies and other Kingdoms.
