Black Panthers chase gold at prestigious swimming Tournament in Dubai

The Black Panthers are coming off a successful run at the 2025 Dolphins Juniors Championship in Kampala, where they secured the top position in the girls category with 176 points.

The Black Panthers Swim Club, one of Uganda’s most formidable youth swimming teams, arrived in Dubai on Thursday, April 17, 2025 to participate in the prestigious Dubai International Aquatic Championship (DIAC) 2025.

The championship runs from March 21 to April 20, bringing together elite swimmers from around the globe to compete in multiple aquatic disciplines including swimming, diving, artistic swimming, water polo, and open water events.

The Ugandan team touched down in Dubai on Thursday evening and was warmly received at Dubai International Airport. The competition is being held at the world-class Hamdan Sports Complex and around the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. These venues boast Olympic- standard pools and scenic open water sites that set the stage for a memorable aquatic event.

Speaking to the media before departure, Head coach Mr. Tony Owens remarked,” This trip to Dubai is not only about medals-its about experience, discipline and global competitiveness. These children are ready to give their best.”

Notably, Micheala Mwesigwa (7) and Abraham Munabi (9) were standout performers gaining recognition for their incredible speed and technique.
The team also boasts an impressive lineup of athletes including Christabell, Tamara Paula, Abigael Muttamba, Paulsen, and Shaun DeAndre, among others. Their consistent dedication and competitive spirit have played a key role in cementing the club’s reputation as a powerhouse in Ugandan swimming.

The Dubai event caters to swimmers across various age brackets including juniors, seniors and masters categories with the state-of-the-art timers and anti-wave setups ensuring precision. According to the DIAC organizers, all participants are eligible for medals and special awards, including the ‘Best Swimmer Trophy’ per age group.

Uganda’s presence at the Dubai Championship reflects the growing focus on International sports and talent development. The Uganda Swimming Federation, along with parents and sports enthusiasts back home, have expressed great pride in the club’s achievements and wish the athletes continued success.

Founded in Kira Municipality, the Black Panthers Swim Club has rapidly risen through Uganda’s aquatic ranks. Training at Kiira country resort, the Club is known for its motto, ” Every Second Counts,” which embodies their commitment to excellence.
