Bikurungu, Uganda – Kinombe Nyaruzinga Construction Company Limited is set to complete the construction of Bikurungu Seed Secondary School ahead of schedule, with plans for the school to open in January 2026 almost a year earlier than initially expected.

The school’s construction, which was awarded a UGX 1.94 billion contract by the Rukungiri District Local Government in February 2025, was initially set for completion in August 2026. However, the project is now 70% complete, with only painting, doors, and windows left to be installed.

Rukungiri District’s outgoing Resident District Commissioner, Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, praised the contractor for their speed and professionalism during a site inspection on Tuesday.

“This is impressive progress. We urge other contractors to follow this example and deliver quality work on time,”Bewayo said.

The project includes three classroom blocks, two science laboratory blocks, an administration block, two twin teachers’ houses, an ICT library, latrines for both students and staff, and kitchen facilities.

Godfrey Nshabire, the project manager, confirmed that all necessary materials, including classroom furniture, are on-site. “We expect to have the school ready by October,” Nshabire said.

Rukungiri District Chief Administrative Officer, Hajji Swalik Wasswa Masokoyi, highlighted the school’s design, which meets international construction standards. He added that the government is preparing to deploy a headteacher and staff ahead of the school’s opening.

Initially, learners were scheduled to begin in January 2027, but the accelerated timeline will now see classes start in January 2026. The school will begin by offering Senior One through Senior Three, with plans to expand through Senior Six in future years.
