The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party has embarked on a mobilization campaign, starting with the Tooro sub-region, which is a stronghold for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, with its leader General (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu mobilizing support for the party in Bunyangabu district, traversing various sub-counties to strengthen party support.

The mobilization activities started on Monday, April 8, 2024, in Kibiito and Rwimi and continued on April 9, 2024, while focusing on enhancing party structures.

While speaking to the press, Robert Mutunzi, the party’s coordinator for the Tooro sub-region, said on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, that for those who know the history of Uganda and the NRA, when the war ended in Luwero, the NRA shifted to Bunyangabu district at a place called Katebe. He said that, as ANT, they value the district a lot because it is one of the most disadvantaged districts in the sub-region.

“When you evaluate what is happening in the country, you see Bunyangabu, the people it lost—people who died at Rubona Stock Farm—and what is now at that farm, we really think Bunyangabu is less advantaged. That is why we decided to start with it before we can roll it out to other districts around Tooro Kingdom,” Mutunzi said.

He added that ANT decided to mobilize the people of Bunyangabu district to know their rights first before they elect the leaders and what they expect from the country because what the district did to help the government come to power has not benefited from it.
