The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has delivered food relief to Nabilatuk District, which was hit by hailstorms triggered by heavy rains.
The delivery was made on April 19, 2024, after it was reported by district leaders that 100 households were in dire need and their properties and food supplies were destroyed, prompting a swift response from the OPM.
According to Hillary Topos, the Acting Town Clerk of Nabilatuk, who is also spearheading the distribution of the relief food to affected families, the delivery comprised of 20,000 kilograms of maize flour and 10,000 kilograms of beans.
”This gesture from OPM is aimed at restoring hope and nourishment to those dealing with the effects of the hailstorm,” Topos said.
He confirmed that the distribution will commence earlier next week, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The beneficiaries are drawn from across the five wards of Nabilatuk Town, including Council—Lolet, Central, Natoopojo, Arengesiep, and Naupala.
According to the communication from OPM, priority should be given to the vulnerable population: households headed by widows, child-headed families, the sick, persons living with disabilities, and persons living with HIV/AIDS.
This targeted approach is to ensure that those in greatest need receive the support crucial for their survival and recovery.
