The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat has called upon the leaders of the Katonga faction to reconcile with the main party leaders in Najjanankumbi to solve the endless squabbles that have factionalized the party for nearly half a year.
He said that one of the resolutions of the retreat would be to provide amnesty to some of their friends who were hoodwinked into believing that FDC is governed under factions.
Amuriat made remarks while speaking to the newly elected party members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Youth League leadership, and National Women League Executive, who are attending a three-day retreat at Nabinoonya Resort Beach-Kisubi in Wakiso district.
“We are asking some of our colleagues who seem to have got disenchanted with what is going on in the party to come back to the fault and I believe that one of the highlights of this retreat is reconciliation”, Amuriat said.
According to Amuriat, the other purpose of the retreat is to guide young leaders on how to resolve the conflicts and balance between personal and political work to ensure that they don’t work in isolation from the mainstream political organization.
However, some of the leaders of the Katonga faction such as Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda a Member of Parliament for Kira Municipality have since vowed never to reconcile with the Najjanankumbi faction citing the illegitimacy of the faction, among others.
According to media reports, Katonga leaders including Dr. Kiza Besigye, Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, and Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda are dealing with the National Unity Platform (NUP) which may foil Amuriat’s pleas since they have no interest in reconciliation.
According to Amuriat, facilitators in the retreat include Dr. Frank Nabwiso, the former MP of Kagoma County, Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Perry Aritua, the Executive Director of Women in Democracy Network (WDN), and Ibrahim Kasozi, the former Makindye East MP.
The Retreat will be closed officially on Saturday, November 11, 2023, by the Party President Amuriat.
