Kampala-Bombo Road Accident Kills Five, Injures 21

According to the police, the incident led to the instant death of five occupants in other vehicles and the motorcycle rider, while 21 passengers in the Toyota Hiace taxis sustained injuries.

A fatal motor accident has claimed the lives of five people and 21 others injured severely injured along Kampala-Bombo Road.

The incident which occurred at Mayanja Valley along on Wednesday night, March 5th 2025 involved a total of nine vehicles.

Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of motor vehicle UBK 769A Fuso Super Grande, traveling from Kampala to Bombo, lost control while sloping at Mayanja Valley, resulting in a collision with nine vehicles and one motorcycle traveling in the same direction.

“The crash involved motor vehicles UBQ 745N (Toyota Noah), UAY 704B (Toyota Hiace), UAT 652K (Toyota Hiace), UBK 769A (Fuso Super Grande), UBD 829G (Toyota Hiace), UAL 333C (Toyota Corolla), UAV 026F (Toyota Hiace), UBQ 062B (Toyota Sienta), UBD 483N (Toyota Hiace), and a motorcycle UES 773K (Yamaha),” Kananura stated.

Kananura said five people including the occupants in other vehicles and the motorcycle rider, while 21 passengers in the Toyota Hiace taxis sustained injuries.

“The injured victims were rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary,” Kananura noted.

The vehicles involved were towed to Kawempe Police Station for inspection as investigations into the crash commence.

During this week’s briefing on Monday, police reported: “During last week, 77 people died and 399 sustained injuries. Among the dead were 25 (34%) motorcyclists, 22 (30%) pedestrians, and 07 (09%) passengers on motorcycles. The major causes of these road crashes were careless overtaking and speeding.”

Police have since then urged motorists to prioritize road safety by ensuring their vehicles are well-maintained, adhering to speed limits, and driving defensively to prevent similar tragic incidents.
