The Office of the Prime Minister, through the Department of Relief and Disaster Preparedness, has flagged off the relocation of 242 households from Bududa District to Bunambutye Resettlement Site in Bulambuli District.

Speaking to the media on August 15, 2024, Hon. Lillian Aber, Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Relief, and Refugees, said that the government procured the land for the affected people, and that all welfare was in place.

”Today I am here to launch a resettlement program for the victims of landslides in Bududa, and we will be relocating 242 victims who already received money from the government. This particular group is ready, and the land that has been procured by the government is ready. Everything that requires their sustainability in the new environment has been set in place,’’ Aber said.

She further stated that the government will provide the victims with welfare for a period of three months.

‘’Everything about their welfare will be taken care of for three months, and water will be provided. As a ministry, we are looking at relocating more people, but we are handling it now with Bududa,” she added.

Aber further called upon local leaders to work with the government and encourage people to relocate in order to avoid future calamities.

242 out of the 271 affected persons opted for the government option of procuring land for them and relocating them; the rest chose to be given UGX 8 million.
