A 12-year-old girl has burned down a 35-year-old woman’s house to ashes in Mubende district after being punished for stealing money.
This incident happened on November 14, 2024, in Boma Nakayima village, in the West division, Mubende municipality, after a 35-year-old woman identified as Jane Nakayaga caught Lucky Kizza Nassazi red-handed inside her house trying to steal and disciplined her, but in anger, she returned in her absence and torched down Nakayaga’s house.
According to Nakayaga, she had been stealing money from her house for a long time before she confronted her on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, which she denied and left.
However, the victim narrated that she heard someone opening her bedroom door as she was sleeping; on inquiry, Nakayaga discovered it was Nassazi, who she then pursued and gave a few strokes of the cane for trespassing and attempting to steal from her.
’’I usually drink alcohol and black out, so Nassazi has been taking advantage of these days to rob my money; however, I am also in shock that Nassazi can do such a terrible act at such a young age,’’ Nakayaga said.

Nakayaga added that a neighbor saw the suspect walking around Nakayaga’s house before it caught fire, which further implicates her for razing her house.
The police are yet to release a statement on the incident.
There have been significant incidents of fire outbreaks in Uganda, particularly in relation to children being involved in the causes.
Incidents like that of Mubende show that some fire outbreaks are not only caused by electric lapses but are caused by undisciplined children who think they are too big to be handled and resort to such heinous acts that can easily lead to loss of lives and property damage.
