The Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Francis Zaake has been denied access to his office as the Parliamentary Commissioner even after court ruled in his favor to maintain his seat.
This comes after Zaake was suspended from the office of the Commissioner of Parliament when the March 10, 2022, Parliamentary resolution to suspend him was made, following the utterances he made against the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among.
Eron Kiiza, Zaake’s lawyer notified Parliament that on November 1, 2023, their client would physically re-occupy the office but they were stunned after they were denied access to the said office, stating that, the Zaake was presented with a letter of allocation to office from Parliament to Queens Chamber Building on the Parliamentary Avenue.
“The allocation letter given to us by Parliament is dated 1st March 2023, which was before court’s ruling that Hon Zaake should immediately reoccupy the Commissioner’s offices at Parliament. We ask the Speaker of Parliament to obey the court ruling or face arrest,” Kiiza said.
On September 28, 2023, the Constitutional Court in a majority decision of 4:1, quashed a resolution to suspend Zaake from the office of the Commissioner of Parliament. The decision came after the court ruled that several Parliamentary rules of procedure including amending the order paper to include a resolution to expel Zaake from the commission were null and void.
