The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested a Yumbe district senior procurement officer and a private contractor over allegations of bribery.
The suspects were identified as Kana Taban, the procurement officer, and Anule Siraj of Miribe Foundation Limited.
It is alleged that Taban had solicited UGX23 million from Obua Emmanuel, the Managing Director of Apogee Logistics Company, as a condition to award his company a contract for the construction of the Ibizi water shed culvert and the rehabilitation of the 4.3km Abiriamajo Yangani access road for FY2022/2023.
Police investigations established that the bribe was paid through a bank account in the name of Miribe Foundation Limited and was withdrawn by the account signatory, Anule Siraj, who delivered it to the Senior Procurement Officer.
It is alleged that police detectives have so far recovered UGX20 million.
The suspects are currently detained at Arua Central Police Station for further inquiries.
