H.E Brig Gen Ronnie Balya, the Ambassador of Uganda to South Sudan and the Head of the Uganda Mission in Juba has urged world leaders to avoid wars which have led to a humanitarian crisis, global energy and food crisis as well as loss of lives and displacement of many people in the community. He therefore, urged  them to promote unity and peace building.

“These conflicts lead to displacement of millions of people to internal camps and refugee camps,” Ambassador Brig Gen Balya said.

The Ambassador made the remarks during the Uganda Police Medal Parade where he was the Guest of Honor at United Nations (UN) House in Juba on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

Brig Gen Balya appealed to world leaders to be good listeners with a spirit of compromise for peace and justice to prevail.

“Therefore, the writing is on the wall-change course-terminate conflicts OR pay a heavy price as the human race. My humble appeal to the world leaders;- Be good listeners with the Spirit of compromise, for peace and justice to prevail. Be flexible. Avoid rigidities. Two wrongs do not make a right, actually they make matters worse,” he noted.

He asked the world leaders to avoid unhealthy and unprincipled conflicts but instead work towards promoting global and regional peace to ensure stability and prosperity. He then urged the United Nations (UN) to assist in ending violence.

“We all need each other as countries and people on the same globe for survival as the human race. The unhealthy competition over WEAPONRY, TRADE, RESOURCES and IDEOLOGY is misplaced and not adding value to humanity, actually it is diverting us from the fight against the real enemy,” Brig Gen Balya noted.

Adding, “The real enemy of the human race are those strategic threats/dangers to humanity (society) which are; Sectarianism/Tribalism, Unprincipled/Unjustified conflicts, violent Extremism/Terrorism, Climate change caused by Environmental Degradation, Poverty, Epidemics, Pandemics, Various diseases, Youth unemployment/Idleness, Weapons of Mass Destruction/Nuclear Weapons, Corruption undermining Service Delivery, Food Insecurity/Hunger, Unnatural Sexual relations and practices, among others.”

Ambassador Balya assured the UN leaders of Uganda’s commitment to end conflict and work for socio-economic transformation by strengthening regional ties.

“Uganda has over the years participated in handling national and international security obligations, for example; in Liberia, Somalia, DRCongo, South Sudan, among others,” Brig Gen said.

The Ambassador urged world leaders to build more peace bridges and not burn the existing ones and work towards a conflict free world, adding that some leaders have planted hatred and violence, which must be uprooted in order to have a healthy and clean society because conflict begins in the mind and ends in the mind, with genuine reconciliation.

Ambassador Balya commended the work of Uganda Police and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and asked them to maintain the good spirit of hard work and togetherness.
