The police have assured Ugandans that they are professionally ready to peacefully handle the forthcoming 2026 elections to ensure the business community, tourism, education, and other sectors continue to operate and thrive normally without any interference.

Hillary Kulayige Ag Director Chief Political Commissar at Uganda Police, while on a local television talk show on Thursday, September 12, 2024, told the public that they are ready to cooperate with the opposition to have clear rally maps that are intended to prevent police confrontation with them.

’’Ugandans should have trust in the police because it has been and is ready to have discussions on where issues show up. Police have internal mechanisms to address their issues without bias, and the public should be reminded that police have been professionalized in all fields of their operations’’, he said.

Kulayige added that, on previous occasions, police agreed with opposition on designated routes; however, some opposition leaders want to go through busy markets to cause commotion, which in most cases leaves traders robbed, hence clashing with police.

’’Some of the opposition leaders, not all of them, force police into scuffle, which is not called for by intentionally provoking police into confrontation, which has left us asking why? He questioned

Kulayige asked Ugandans to trust in police and cooperate with them to have a joint effort of ensuring peace and stability in our country as Ugandans who love their country to progress steadily.

Police say that as the country heads to the forthcoming general elections of 2026, there should be no panic because police and sister security agencies are on board to secure Ugandans and their belongings.
