President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has donated Shs600 million towards the construction of two churches in Bukasa, Wakiso District and tasked leaders to prioritize household income enhancement alongside infrastructure development.
The President made the donation on Tuesday, 8th July 2025 while commissioning the newly tarmacked 12-kilometre Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri road, which was constructed at a cost of Shs56 billion.
Each of the beneficiary churches Catholic and Anglican received Shs300 million to support ongoing construction works.
Speaking at the function, President Museveni stressed the importance of complementing physical infrastructure with deliberate efforts to eradicate household poverty.
“While tarmac roads and other developments are important, we must understand that poverty is individual while development is collective. Each household must work to create its own wealth,” the President said.
He urged both religious and political leaders in the area to mobilize communities towards government wealth creation programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), which he said is designed to uplift families stuck in the subsistence economy.
Museveni explained that the newly commissioned road forms part of the broader Kampala Metropolitan transport network and is a vital economic corridor that will ease movement, boost trade, and improve service delivery.
“This is a strategic link that should enable our people to engage in meaningful production and access markets. That is why we are focusing on roads, electricity, and security so that people can use these tools to transform their lives,” he said.
The President also advised the electorate in Wakiso to vote for leaders with ideological clarity and the capacity to monitor and guide implementation of government programmes.
“Leadership is not about excitement or noise. It is about understanding where we are going and helping people to benefit from the available government initiatives,” Mr Museveni added.
The President is currently on a week-long tour of the Greater Wakiso region to assess the performance of wealth creation interventions including the PDM, Emyooga, and other socio-economic transformation programmes.
The Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri road is one of several infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and unlocking economic potential in peri-urban and rural areas.
