A smiling Ruud Van Nistelrooy has had a perfect start as the new Leicester City Football Club manager with a 3-1 win in his first match in charge against West Ham United at King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, December 3, 2024.

Striker and captain Jamie Vardy grabbed the first goal just after 98 seconds in Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge, before Bilal El Khannouss and Patson Daka struck to seal victory for the Foxes.

The English footballer has now scored the first Premier League goal under six different Leicester City managers in the Premier League.

It was also Vardy who broke Van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in the most consecutive Premier League games when he achieved 11 in a row for Leicester back in the 2015 campaign.

The Dutchman in his post-match press interview also admitted that a lot needs to be done such that the Foxes get back to their standards. Having spent only two days with his players, he managed to transform them to get back to winning ways after a six-match winless run.

“We know the level in the Premier League, and we know every game we play that everything has to be right. We have to train and develop our defense, our counterattack, and our possession. Lots of things to work on, but very happy with the three points,” he said.

He further assured the Leicester supporters not to be a “romantic manager” who will put style in front of results but instead will prioritize the results for the club.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, while talking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game, also expressed his admiration of the Dutchman’s managerial skills, having managed to turn results in favor of his side in just two days.

“What a result this is for Ruud van Nistelrooy. We were talking about a Leicester team devoid of confidence and ideas before the game, but he’s got a performance out of that group tonight,” he said.
