Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is set to provide tax education and tax-related services to the youth during an annual Youth Business Forum, in light with its mandate, which requires the Authority to assess, collect and account for central government Tax Revenue (including Non-Tax Revenues) and to provide advice to government on matters of policy, relating to all revenue resources.

This was revealed at the Parliamentary conference on Friday, September 22, 2023.

Michael Masembe, the Acting Manager of Tax Education said that, educating young people on tax is the best way to ensure a tax-literate populace.

“The best way is to ensure a tax-literate populace in the future and instill a tax-paying culture from a young age,” Masembe said.

Evelyn Anite, the State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization, has called upon the youth to embrace Small Medium Enterprises (SME), adding that, history has been tested on the growth of SMEs into big businesses that transform society.

“As URA gears towards collecting Ugx 30 trillion, tax education has been earmarked as one of the key vehicles to attain voluntary tax compliance,” Anite said.

The Annual Youth Business Forum 2023, an initiative of Parliament Watch Uganda is set for October 13, 2023, at Kololo Independence Grounds under the theme Improved Youth Livelihoods for Better Entrepreneurship.
